Description

The Eden V was a cargo ship, run aground since 1988 on the bottom of a beach in Lesina Marina, in the province of Foggia, Puglia. It is considered one of the so-called “disposable ships”„ vessels deliberately sunk by organized crime in a historical period that lasted about twenty years, in the waters close to Italy. With their load of toxic waste from various sources, this illegal disposal resulted as highly dangerous for the ecosystem and for humans. Through the representation of the wreck of the Eden V Errico wishes to remind that toxic waste illegal disposal is still unresolved and there are too many people in the world who are at risk from exposure to this type of pollution. The artist’s invitation to institutions and to all citizens of the world is to become aware of the theme and to act with greater individual responsibility and community spirit.
