Description

I can’t believe you changed it again! is an interpretation of a frame from the film Call me by your name (2017) by Italian director Luca Guadagnino, and it is part of a cycle of works inspired by the many films I was able to watch (or re-watch) during the months of lockdown due to the health emergency. I have always been passionate about cinema; however, it is precisely this forced isolation that has given me the opportunity to resume and deepen the viewing of cinematic masterpieces that I already knew, as well as to come across realities that were new to me, thus initiating important new points of reflection. In this sense, watching these films had become, along with painting, my safety valve and the main channel of artistic nourishment, in the almost total absence of any other social contact. It was a way to make the mind travel at very high speed, with changes of situations and perspectives as sudden as the passage from one film to another. Precisely at a time when the world, on the contrary, was experiencing a suspension bordering on the surreal. The choice of films was apparently accidental but in reality it responded to a precise line of research that I was trying to develop. At first it happened unconsciously, then with increasing awareness yet always in an attempt to find contact points between my work (and, therefore, myself) and the films I was feeding on so voraciously. Therefore, through cinema, social abstinence turned into a way to reflect intimately on myself. And to discover, perhaps, something new again.
