Description

This inflatable sculpture reimagines the Chinese Double Happiness symbol, traditionally tied to marriage, as a fragile structure leaking bubbles. Coated in soapy water and sustained by a hidden pump, its intentional air leaks symbolize the decline of marriage in China. Economic pressures, urbanization, and shifting values contribute to this trend, echoing Bauman’s “Liquid Love” concept of fleeting relationships. The dissolving bubbles reflect fragile social ties, prompting viewers to question whether this is a lament for tradition or a call to redefine marriage in a changing world. The installation invites reflection on love, commitment, and societal expectations.
