On July 5th, 2019, opens the 17th edition of ART STAYS Festival, the biggest Slovenian festival dedicated to contemporary arts. Every summer the ancient city of Ptuj becomes a crossroad of art and culture which has been attracting for years both promising young artists and some of the most important names on the international art scene, such as Ai Weiwei, Yoko Ono, Olafur Eliasson, Gilbert & George, Jake e Dinos Chapman and many others.

The 17th edition, titled FUTURE – a vision of the world, will feature the participation of international artists who explore the concept of future and try to answer, through their artistic proposals, to the question: what does the future hold?
The over eighty selected artists will present specific projects or works that offer accurate insights on their research and practices – not only artistic, but also cultural, social, political, and anthropological – aimed at exploring our future.
Since 2010, Art Stays collaborates with Arte Laguna Prize in order to select an artist and give him or her the chance to participate in this international event. This year the winner is the Japanese artist Yu Kato (Tokyo, 1985), finalist in the sculpture and installation section of the last Arte Laguna Prize. During her art residency in Ptuj, will be creating in the courtyard of the Castle a large spatial installation, powered by nature that, together with the wind, will change its color and shape and thus illustrate the breath of nature.
At the core of Yu Kato’s installations there is an attempt to create spaces in which it is possible for people to interact with the surrounding environment. The artist was selected by the Festival’s organizers for her research that reveals a new world of emotions that goes outside the box, relating on one hand with the viewer and on the other with time and space.
It will be possible to meet the artist on Monday July 8 during the open studio and art talk that will take place at the Ptuj castle courtyard. The official opening of the installation will be on July 12.
