ART. 1 – GOALS
Arte Laguna srl, in partnership with the Cultural Association MoCA, organizes the 13th Edition of the International Arte Laguna Prize, aimed at promoting and enhancing contemporary art.
The Prize obtained a medal from the President of the Italian Republic, with the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Venice, the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the European Institute of Design.
The contest features the awarding of cash prizes, the organization of a major collective exhibition at the Arsenale of Venice, exhibitions in international art galleries, collaborations with companies, art residencies, inclusion into the web portal artelaguna.world and the publication of the Catalogue.
The Prize includes ten sections: painting, sculpture and installation, photographic art, video art and short films, performance, virtual art, digital graphics, land art, urban art and design.


ART. 2 – TECHNIQUES
The Prize is open to all Artists and Designers, with no restrictions of age, gender, nationality or any other qualifications. Each artist can participate also in more than one section by submitting a portfolio of works. Artworks may have been previously exhibited. The theme is free. Below are the details of each section:
Painting
works made with technical and stylistic freedom (oil, tempera, acrylic, ink, vinyl, watercolor, graphite, pencil, collage, prints of different kind, etc.) on any support (canvas, paper, wood, plastics, iron, etc.). The maximum size allowed is 175 cm per side.
Sculpture and Installation
works created with any organic or inorganic material,which may include sounds, lights, videos and mechanical or electrical movements. The maximum size allowed is: base 4 meters, depth 4 meters, height 8 meters and there is no weight limit. Works that require a set-up in dark rooms must be adaptable to the available exhibition space.
Photographic Art
photographs on analog or digital support, photos which may include digital elaborations. The maximum size allowed is 175 cm per side.
Video Art and Short films
videos, films, slow motion, time-lapse photgraphy or works made with animation techniques on any digital or analog support, cinematographic, promotional, or graphic computer short films. Maximum duration: 15 minutes. The video file must be uploaded online and not exceed 500 mb..
Performance
performances made by one or more artists, using any technique, expressive form and support materials provided by the artist. Finalist artists will perform live during the opening night, in a version which does not exceed 10 minutes.
Virtual Art
works entirely created by using the computer or digital applications and devices: videos, installations, performances in which the use of digital media plays a key role in the creative process and content; net art, software, interactive devices, videogames, augmented reality projects, rapid prototyping, etc. Works featuring an installation will have to be adaptable to the exhibition space available.
Digital Graphics
images and works generated or edited using a computer, tablet, smarthphone, or applications including works of digital painting, gifs and photographs, where the technological intervention is predominant. Works of digital painting, gifs and photographs where manipulation is predominant are included. Finalist works will be set up on a monitor or printed on a two-dimensional support with a maximum size 175 cm per side.
Environmental / Land Art
works or projects of environmental and land art in which the artistic intervention interacts with the environment it has been created for. There is no restrictions on the choice of the specific environment. The submitted works and projects submitted relate to nature and its features and more in general to the environment or the landscape in which they are placed. The finalist works will be exhibited with explicative panels.
Urban Art
works or projects of urban art and enhancement, street art, graffiti and stencil ar5t, in which the artistic intervention interacts with the urban area and the public space it has been conceived for, using any technique (spray paint, artistic stickers, stencils, projections, videos, installations, etc.). There is no restrictions concerning the artistic intervention site. The finalist works will be exhibited with explicative panels.
Design – With the support of Antrax
Furniture or furnishing accessories that enrich the housing experience where the visual component is predominant. Finishes and outdoor furniture are included, whereas electrical appliances are not accepted. Finalist designers will have to present a full-scale prototype or a scale model of their project based on the set-up choices by the organization.


ART. 3 – JURY 
The selection of the submitted artworks is made by an international jury composed of 13 members, subdivided into the contest categories.

ART. 4 – PRIZES
The total amount of the Prize is thus divided:

*By law, on all the money prizes a withholding of 25% will be required. In case of ex-aequo, the jury reserves the right to split the prize money among more artists.

ARTIST IN GALLERY PRIZES 
4 personal exhibitions in international art galleries including: set-up, reimbursement of expenses of € 500* and a dedicated digital catalogue.

Each gallery selects one artist among those who pass the first selection carried out by the international jury (see art. 7)

PRIZE SUSTAINABILITY AND ART 
Creative projects to support sustainability and the Reuse Reduce Recycle strategies.
To participate, it is required to fill in a form with a dedicated project. Participation is free of charge for all those who applied to one of the sections of Arte Laguna Prize (see art. 2). the form will be sent by email. There is an application fee of 65 € + 22% VAT (79,30 €) for those who would like to apply only to the Sustainability and Art Prize (link at art.6).

ARS (Art Reuse Sustainability) of plastic
Prize of 3,000 Euro for the winning work or project.
Submission of works, products and art projects including design, photography, video art and performance, etc. which enhance plastic and plastic packagings as part of the RRR strategies (Reuse, Recycle, Reduce).
The prize is realized with the support of Corepla (National Consortium for the Collection and Recycling of Plastic packages) and in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari Sostenibile.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PRIZES 
Art Residency programs in Italy and abroad that provide artists with a space and time to live the experience of a new culture, create new works and participate in new activities in a multicultural environment. Participation is free of charge for all those who apply to one of the sections of Arte Laguna Prize (see art. 2). Each artist can apply to all the residences by filling out the dedicated form, where required.

Open Dream, Treviso Italy
Art residency of 1 month + final open studio
The residency includes: accommodation, workspace at the former factory Ceramiche Pagnossin factory, logistic support on site, a grant to support the production costs (the amount of the grant will be defined based on the project). The artist is requested to submit a project for the reuse and valorization of the ceramics left at the former premises of the Pagnossin factory, and she/he may use the original matrices and ceramic molds as well as all the materials belonging to the previous production of the factory that are now stored in the Open Dream spaces. The artwork will remain the property of Open Dream.

Lanificio Paoletti, Follina (Treviso), Italy
Art residency of 1 month + final open studio
The residency includes: accommodation, assistance, workspace at Lanificio Paoletti, technical and logistic support. It is required to submit a project that uses woolen in all its forms. Artists can propose installations or works with applications of woollen fabrics or ideas for the creation of fabrics for new products. Artists can use all the materials provided by the company (fabric, scraps, selvages, carded wool, etc.) and work with the technical support of Lanificio Paoletti’s workers. Any materials other than those provided by the company must be agreed upon and specified during the application phase. The work will remain the property of the artist, and in the archives of the company will remain a photographic trace of the work produced.

GLO’ART, Lanaken, Belgium
Art residency from 1 to 12 weeks + final exhibition
The residency includes: travel expenses, accommodation, workspaces, materials, logistics support, scholarship of 250 Euro per week, final exhibition at the GLO’ART centre. The works made during the residency will remain the property of GLO’ART.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the form that will be sent by e-mail after applying to one of the Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

Espronceda, Barcelona, Spain
Art Residency from 3 to 6 weeks + final exhibition
The residency includes: accommodation, curatorial assistance, studio, support for materials, final exhibition or another public activity, involvement in the activities realized by the art centre.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the form that will be sent by e-mail after applying to one of the Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

Basu Foundation for the Arts, Kolkata India
Art Residency for 1 month + final exhibition
The residency includes: board and lodging, studio, curatorial assistance on site, introduction into the Indian cultural scene, a grant for the creation of the works. One of the works created will remain the property of Basu Foundation for the Arts.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the form that will be sent by e-mail after applying to one of the Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

Farm Cultural Park, Favara (Agrigento), Italy
Art residency of 10 days + final exhibition
The residency includes: accommodation, studio, curatorial assistance on site, logistics support.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the form that will be sent by e-mail after applying to one of the Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

Maradiva Cultural Residency, Flic-en-Flac, Mauritius
Cultural residency of 15 days at Maradiva Villas Resort in collaboration with Basu Foundation.
The residency includes: journey, accommodation at the touristic resort Maradiva, logistics support, studio, involvement in the local artistic scene, final exhibition.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the form that will be sent by e-mail after applying to one of the Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

Centrale Fies, Dro (Trento), Italy
Art residency of 2 weeks dedicated to performing arts
The residency includes: accommodation with kitchen, equipped rehearsal room (technical assistance not included).
All the artists enrolled in the performance section participate in the selection process.

Nuart Festival, Stavanger, Norway
Art residency of 1 week dedicated to urban art
The residency includes: accommodation, studio space, logistic support, participation in the Nuart Festival (5th-8th September 2019), grant of 200 €.
All the artists enrolled in the urban art section participate in the selection process.

BUSINESS FOR ART PRIZES 
Collaborations with companies meant to connect creativity with the production sector.

To participate, it is required to fill in a form with a dedicated project. Participation is free of charge for all those who apply to one of the sections of Arte Laguna Prize (see art. 2). The form will be sent by email. There is an application fee of 65 € + 22% VAT (79,30 €) for those who would like to apply only to the Business for Art Prizes (links at art.6).

Fraccaro Spumadoro, Treviso, Italy
Prize of 2.000 € for the winning project
Participation requires the presentation of works or graphic proposals to be applied to the packaging of the products by Fraccaro Spumadoro in order to create a packaging prototype with the winning graphics. The submitted proposal can be free or declined for one of the packaging used by the company and must be inspired by the key concepts of “excellence and artisan elegance, a story of love and simplicity eighty years long, natural ingredients and sourdough, essentiality”.

Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua, Venice, Italy
The historic Venetian company awards the best artistic proposal with the precious fabric Velvet Soprarizzo Leoni, made with a loom from 1700, worth 2,000 €.
Participation requires the submission of projects involving the use of the Bevilacqua fabric. The theme is free, there is no size limit on, and the artist has the freedom of choice on how to use the fabric. The winner will receive a fabric supply in agreement with the company,and the project must be completed within 1 year after the reception of the materials and will remain the property of the artist.

47 Anno Domini, Treviso, Italy
Prize of 2000 € for the winning project
Participation requires the presentation of site-specific installations or projects, indoor or outdoor, designed for the enhancement of the spaces of 47 Anno Domini (see photo https://www.47annodomini.it/le-sale). There are no limits on size, technique or material. The theme is free, but the project must be inspired by the conceptual approach of the company that associates wine production and the quality of the products with ideas of beauty, design, relaxation. The company will then decide whether to support the production of the project, for this reason the artist, during the application stage, must also indicate the production costs.

Maglificio Giordano’s, Cappella Maggiore (Treviso), Italy
Prize of 2000 € for the winning proposal
Participation requires the submission of works or art projects extended also to photography, video art, or performance where the connection with the fashion world is predominant.There are no limits on size, technique or material. The winning work will remain the property of the artist.
Participation is free of charge for all those who apply to one of the sections of Arte Laguna Prize (see art. 2).

ART PLATFORMS & SUPPORTERS PRIZES 
Collaborations with foundations and institutions whose main mission is to promote art and support artists and their careers.
Participation is free of charge for all those who apply to one of Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

The Art Spirit Foundation, Connecticut, United States
Prize of 3000 € for the winning artwork made with the use of pastels.
Participation requires the presentation of paintings in which the use of pastels is predominant, according to the mission of The Art Spirit Foundation. The theme is free, there is no size limit, and the winning work will remain the property of the artist.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the form that will be sent by e-mail after applying to one of the Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

Biafarin, Canada
Biafarin Prestige Award*
Prize of 1500 US$ to 3 selected artists (Each 500 US$):
– Prize of 500 US$ for one artist in Painting category
– Prize of 500 US$ for one artist in Sculpture and Installation category
– Prize of 500 US$ for one artist in Photographic art category
Biafarin Promotion Award*
– 10 artists will be presented to 30+ international online shops to promote and sell their artworks around the world.
– 10 artists will receive a dynamic customizable website automatically populated with their artist data for one year.
– 10 artists will receive a designated public profile page in Biafarin portal for one year.

Biafarin selects the winners of the awards among the artists that pass the first selection carried out by the international jury (see art. 7)

* Artists need to join Biafarin to be eligible for these awards.

FESTIVALS AND EXHIBITIONS PRIZES 
International collaborations with festivals and organizations to create a network where artists, visibility, and new projects meet.
Participation is free of charge for all those who apply to one of the sections Arte Laguna Prize (see art. 2).

Art Nova 100, Beijing, China
Exhibition of the 10 finalist videos in Summer 2019
The collective exhibition will be organized as one of the activities carried out by the platform for the promotion of international artists in China.

Art Stays Festival, Ptuj, Slovenia
Participation in the Festival and 7-day stay
The participation includes: accommodation, board, studio, logistics support, curatorial assistance. One of the artworks will enter the Festival’s collection.
Art Stays selects one artist among those who pass the first selection carried out by the international jury (see art. 7)

TraVellArt by Arte Communications, Venice, Italy
Exhibition of the works by 1 artist at Hotel Savoia & Jolanda in Venice
The exhibition is part of the TraVellArt project, a series of international exhibitions organized by Arte Communications, and dedicated to the theme of travel, inspired by the exhibition space inside the historic Venetian hotel, a place of hospitality for travelers. The prize includes: curatorial assistance and promotion.
Arte Commuinications selects one artist among those who pass the first selection carried out by the international jury (see art. 7)

Photolux Festival, Lucca, Italy
Participation in the festival dedicated to photography (November 23rd – 24th 2019)
Participation requires the submission of a photographic project that interprets the following theme: Conquests, Revolutions, Beyond the Walls (the theme is linked to the fact that 2019 will be the fiftieth anniversary of the man on the moon, 230 years from the French Revolution and 30 years from the fall of the Berlin Wall). The prize includes: accommodation, exhibition, inclusion in the catalogue. The selected artist will be chosen on the basis of the submitted project and the resume.
To participate, it is necessary to fill out the form that will be sent by e-mail after applying to one of the Arte Laguna Prize sections (see art. 2).

FINALISTS EXHIBITION 
The 120 finalist artists selected by the international jury will participate in the major collective exhibition which will take place in Venice, at the Arsenale Nord, from March 16th to April 7th 2019
The jury, at its discretion, may decide to select a smaller or larger number of finalist artists based on qualitative and set-up reasons.
The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue. All the finalist works, included those awarded with the money prizes, remain property the artists. The works of all the artists enrolled in Arte Laguna Prize will be published for free on the portal artelaguna.world (with prior consent).



ART. 5 – ENTRY FEE
The entry fee allows each artist to present their resume and a portfolio of up to 4 works to the selection jury. Moreover, the entry fee allows each artist to apply, without additional costs, to all the prizes by filling out, where required, the dedicated application form.
The entry fee is for the partial coverage of the services offered by Arte Laguna (coordination of the selection by the jury, organization of the special prizes, realization of the Finalists Exhibition, promotion and press office), and of the administration and secretarial expenses; the entry fee is:

  • 85 € + 22% VAT (103,70 €) for artists over 25 (born within the year 1992).
    The fee allows the applicant to submit 4 works also in different sections; each additional work, following the 4th, costs 20 € + 22% VAT (24,40 €).
  • 65 € + 22% VAT (79,30 €) for artists under 25 (born in 1993 and later); artists under 25 must attach a copy of their ID when applying. The fee allows the applicant to submit 4 works also in different sections; each additional work, following the 4th, costs 15 € + 22% VAT (18,30 €).

Artists must keep a copy of the payment. The entry fee is not refundable.



ART. 6 – CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
Artists can apply by November 27th, 2018  Deadline extended to December 19th, 2018

b) By mail
By sending in an envelope or delivering to the Head Office of the Prize (ARTE LAGUNA – Via Roma, 29/A – 31021 Mogliano Veneto (TV) – Italy):
– the application form
– a short biographical statement
– a picture of each work (maximum size: 20x30cm), including the artist’s name and surname, country, title, size, technique, year on the back side of the picture, or a DVD with the files of the works
– a copy of the payment of the entry fee.

The videos sent on DVD will be uploaded in a private password-protected Youtube or Vimeo account, to facilitate the selection by the international jury.
Please do not send the original work during the application; the first selection will be made based on the photos of the works. The documentation will not be returned to the artist. If the submission includes material that is obscene, slanderous or that may affect the visitor’s sensitivity, Arte Laguna srl and the Cultural Association MoCA reserve the right to remove it in whole or in part.

After submitting the application, each artist will receive an email with the credentials to access a reserved area where it will be possible to verify the data entered, attach the copy of the payment of the entry fee and download the payment invoice.



ART. 7 – SELECTION PROCESS
The jurors of the different sections will evaluate the works by taking into considerations the international contemporary art features and according to qualitative criteria as well as research and technical abilities. The jury can evaluate all the submitted material.
The jury will make the first selection by choosing 200 or more artists, who will be admitted to the second selection, after which the finalist artists, who will participate in the group exhibition at the Arsenale of Venice from March 16th to April 7th 2019 March 30th to April 25th 2019, will be announced.
The winners of all the other prizes will be selected by each partner (see art.4) . The selections results will be announced online on the website www.artelagunaprize.com
The proclamation of the overall winners and of all the prizes will take place during the inauguration of the finalist artists exhibition on March 16th 2019 March 30th 2019. The set-up and the organization of the exhibition will be done by Arte Laguna srl and the Italian Cultural association MoCA. Transportation (round trip) and possible artworks insurance costs will be at the expense of each artist.

The decisions of the Awarding Juries are irrevocable and unquestionable.



ART. 8 – RESPONSIBILITIES
Arte Laguna srl and the Cultural Association MoCA, while guaranteeing the greatest care and custody of the works, will not be liable for any thefts, fires or any damages to the artworks or people that could occur during all the stages of the event. Any insurance request is the responsibility of the artists.
Arte Laguna srl and the Cultural Association MoCA reserve the right to modify these “Terms and Conditions”, if it is necessary.


ART. 9 – AGREEMENT
The awarded artists have the right to renounce the prizes, but without asking for any kind of compensation, in this case the prize will be re-assigned according to the ranking made by the jury. Each artist has the rights to the images and to the submitted works but gives to Arte Laguna srl and the Cultural Association MoCA, without any compensation, the rights of reproduction, exhibition, publication, translation and communication to the public, in any manner and without exception, for their works and for the texts participating in the selection. Arte Laguna srl and the Cultural Association MoCA, while fully respecting the moral rights of the author, will exercise these rights for all institutional activities of communication concerning the competition. Each candidate gives to the Cultural Association MoCA, as well as to its direct representatives, the authorization to the treatment of personal data according to the privacy law and the European Regulation (GDPR 2016/679) and also for data entry into data banks managed by the subjects mentioned above and by third parties who pursue the same purposes.
