Tanja Pak | Maradiva Art Residency | 13.12.2019
Arte Laguna Prize creates, with its international partners, opportunities of growth for the artists who apply to the competition by giving them the chance to present their work not only to the professional jury but also to a network of residencies, institutions, festivals and galleries around the world. Among the winners of one of these opportunities we present the Slovenian artist Tanja Pak, who applied to the 13th Arte Laguna Prize and was selected by the Maradiva Art Residency to live a new artistic experience on the tropical island of Mauritius from the 2nd to the 17th of December 2019.
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Artist: Tanja Pak
Location: Maradiva Villa Resort&spa Art Gallery, Wolmar Coastal Road, Flic en Flac, Mauritius
Opening: 13th November 2019, 7.30 p.m.
Tanja’s residency has been full of experiences and new suggestions from the very beginning: in addition to the beautiful landscape and the welcoming atmosphere that are a further incentive for the birth of new creative ideas, Maradiva organizes concrete opportunities to discover the island’s cultural heritage.
“How to describe when something is so perfect, so far above any expectation, that you stay wordless? I simply haven’t found word to describe the beauty, the hospitality, the luxury of everything that welcomed me here at Maradiva on Mauritius … Thank you to Arte Laguna Prize where it all started.” This is how Tanja describes her experience
During this trip Tanja has visited the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Arts at the University in Moka where she held a lecture to present her works and her home city and met the local craftsmen. Among these, the artist has been particularly impressed by one of the workshops held at Mauritius Glass Gallery where an entire production line is made using only recycled Coca-Cola bottles and waste vegetable oil.
At the end of the residency, one of the works created by the artist during her stay will be donated to the Maradiva Art Gallery and the proceeds of a second work will be donated to two charities: Friends of Earth and Terre de Paix.
