ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE: FUTURIST NIGHT AT ART NIGHT FOR THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE 9th EDITION

Venice, June 18, 2014 - Arte Laguna Prize chooses the Venetian Art Night – the annual event dedicated to art – to officially open the entries to the 9th edition of the international visual arts contest.

Arte Laguna creates an event in the name of Futurism with cooking classes, bodypainting and cocktails. The location of the evening is the old convent of San Salvador in the heart of Venice, the venue of the Telecom Italia Future Centre, which opens its door at 8:00 pm. The event will start with the recipes of the Venetian chef Mirco Favaretto, it will continue with the "express" show cooking whose protagonists are the typical Venetian "cicchetti" avant-garde style; at the same time the young bodypainter Elisa Calderoni will paint the bodies of four dancers drawing her inspiration from the paintings by Balla and Marinetti. During the event guests will enjoy the futurist cocktails by Cortese Ginger Beer and explore the theme of Futurism through the multimedia installation by Nicola Simion.

Many valuable novelties have been introduced for the 2014-15 edition of Arte Laguna Prize, which will award 7 thousand Euros to each one of the 5 overall winners, announcing them in March 2015 during the opening ceremony of the finalists exhibition at the Arsenal of Venice.

COLLABORATIONS WITH COMPANIES
One of the strengths and distinctive elements of the competition are the "Business for Art" prizes created in collaboration with three leaders of Made in Italy in the fields of fashion, wine and design.
In the Arte Laguna network there is Riva 1920, historical furniture company based in Cantù, which reuses dolphin wood from Venice to create the object designed by an artist. Then there is Azienda Agricola La Tordera from Valdobbiadene, a wine producer since the Fifties which will award 5 thousand Euros to the artistic label for a limited-edition line of sparkling wine, which will be presented at Vinitaly 2015 and Expo, and finally Pas de Rouge, which will award a prize of 10 thousand Euros to the most appealing creative project inspired by the world of footwear and the slogan "The Soft Appeal" that accompanies its products.

ART RESIDENCIES

Seven artists will be able to live a creative experience outside the artist's studio thanks to the collaboration with: Artistic Serigraphy Fallani of Venice, Glass School Abate Zanetti of Murano, the Slovenian festival Art Stays and the Artistic Foundry Battaglia of Milan.

SOLO EXHIBITIONS IN ART GALLERIES
The formula of collaboration with international galleries called "Artist in the gallery" continues. Each gallery will select an artist for a personal exhibition including setting-up, opening, transportation expenses, and dedicated catalogue. The spaces will be Charlot Gallery in Paris, Fernando Santos Gallery in Portugal and Isabelle Lesmeister Gallery in Germany.

Entries for one of the five sections of the competition (painting, photographic art, sculpture and installation, performance and video art, digital and virtual art) must be received by November 6, 2014.

The works will be evaluated and selected by a panel of international experts comprising the directors of foundations and museums, independent curators, and chaired by Igor Zanti. In the jury: Simone Frangi, Italy/France, Artistic Director of Viafarini DOCVA and Professor of Theory of Contemporary Art at the Ecole Supérieure d'Art et Design de Grenoble-Valence; Franck Gautherot, France, Co-Director at Le Consortium, Centre for Contemporary Art in Dijon; Chus Martinez, Spain, Director of Institute of Art FHNW in Basel, Switzerland; Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, Italy, Director of Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como; Domenico Quaranta, Italy, Critic and Curator; Veeranganakumari Solanki, India, Independent Curator and Art Writer; Philippe van Cauteren, Belgium, Artistic Director at SMAK, Museum of Contemporary Art in Ghent; Jonathan Watkins, UK, Director of Ikon Gallery.
