15 Years of Arte Laguna Prize

ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE PROMOTES SUSTAINABLE ART TOGETHER WITH CONTARINA SPA AND CA’ FOSCARI UNIVERSITY OF VENICE

During the European Week for Waste Reduction, Arte Laguna Prize recalls its commitment to the environment. The Sustainability and Art Prize, created to reward sustainable, original and creative art, returns also this year. Since 2016 Arte Laguna Prize has created a special section of the competition with the aim of raising awareness within the local and international community towards the themes of sustainability through art, promoting awareness of the strategies of Reuse Recycle Reduce through the artistic gesture and creativity and emphasizing the importance of artistic expression to convey social and cultural values.

By establishing collaborations with partners of absolute importance and recognizability, Arte Laguna Prize promotes the dialogue between Art and Sustainability by inviting the public to an ethical use of the works and encouraging a sensitive approach towards major global issues, such as environmental ecology and social inclusion. The special section of the competition dedicated to Sustainability and Art is created every edition in collaboration with the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and with the recognition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Environment and of the Protection of Land and Sea.Over the course of the editions, the Sustainability and Art Prize involved various National Recycling Consortia, focusing on the recovery and recycling of different materials (paper with Comieco, glass with Coreve, plastic with Corepla, aluminum with Cial). This year Arte Laguna Prize was invited by the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid to present the story of this special section of the competition during the online event organized for the Semana de la Ciencia e innovación.

For the current edition, thanks to the collaboration with Contarina Spa from Treviso and the Ca’ Foscari Sostenibile program of the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the project which will better enhance the RRR strategies (Reuse, Recycle, Reduce) and their positive impact on nature and the lives of citizens, will be awarded with 3.000 euros.

“Contarina has been engaged for years in activities and projects concerning environmental issues not only to spread knowledge, but also to create culture. The Sustainability and Art Prize goes precisely in this direction: enhancing waste materials and sustainability issues that can become art. We are pleased to be a partner of this important cultural initiative, which addresses the topic of waste with a new and creative approach” – declared the Chairman of Contarina spa Sergio Baldin.

This year, the prize is open to the enhancement of all recycled materials, to emphasize the importance of every creative gesture as an engine for the dissemination of ecological and ethical values.

The competition is open to all artists and designers enrolled in Arte Laguna Prize 15 and requires the presentation of works, products or artistic projects that deal with the given topic in an original and creative way. The jury that will choose the winning project includes Matteo Galbiati, curator of the 15th edition of the Arte Laguna Prize and the representatives of Contarina spa and Ca’ Foscari Sostenibile. The official announcement will take place during the opening of the finalists’ exhibition at the Arsenale of Venice on March 13, 2021.
