San Francisco is known for its entrepreneurial, free-spirited environment. Creative individuals of all stripes thrive on the city’s pioneering spirit and the sense that with a little out-of- the-box thinking, one can make his/her own rules and destiny. It’s an environment where people take pride in inventing new approaches. The recent growth of San Francisco as a technology hub offers artists access to cutting-edge tools & processes, providing them with the opportunity to learn & develop their work in potentially new ways.

Accommodation includes a single private bedroom & small studio, plus shared kitchen, bathroom and garden/backyard.The residency will culminate in a final presentation of the work by the artist, focused on the work created during the program, hosted at the Pacific Felt Factory Arts Complex.

The residency is made in collaboration with The Shop.build, a working space where the artist can realize the selected project and where the final exhibition takes place.
The Shop.build in San Francisco is a membership-based, open-access, DIY fabrication facility. It is a welcoming home where all makers, entrepreneurs and artists can create, dream and thrive.
The facility features 3D printers and laser cutters in addition to fully-equipped wood, metal and machine shops that can handle the most complex of projects. The Shop also offers safety & basic use training on all of its machines and equipment. Other notable capabilities include CNC machines, such as a Tormach CNC Mill, Shopbot CNC router, and a water jet cutter that can slice through everything from 2 inch thick steel & granite to thin sheets of aluminum or plastic.
The Shop’s mission is to help everyone find their niche in the ever-growing world of creativity and personal passion.
