Residency Unlimited | Arte Laguna Prize

Mission, History, and Principal Activities:

Founded in 2009, Residency Unlimited (RU) supports the creative process through its unique customized residencies and year-round public programs featuring new work by participating artists. RU nurtures diverse local, national, and international artists and curators at all stages of their career. To date, RU has hosted residencies for over 500 artists and 100 curators. We are committed to promoting multidisciplinary practices and building lasting connections between residents and the broader arts community.

Collaboration is at the heart of our mission. Through the sharing and pooling of resources, we can create greater flexibility and versatility to better reflect the needs of RU’s residents. Residencies are tailored to the specific goals of each resident with weekly meetings for the artist with art professionals.  Key to our process is providing our artists extensive critical feedback about their practice. Residents are ensured a public program for exposure of their work. When the pandemic broke out in March 2020, we shifted residency activity and programming online and will continue integrating remotely led activity which has proved to be highly successful for the residents. RU also offers the unique opportunity of connecting the residents to our global network of alumni. Post residency we continue to offer support in various forms.
