SPECIAL PRIZE 2026

Through its collaboration with Arte Laguna Prize, FOMAS Group rewards artists who best represent the company’s principles summarized in the slogan “MASTERING THE SCIENCE OF METALS”.

The works will have to represent the journey of steel in its crossing from hot to cold, a suspended time in which matter transforms and becomes aware of itself. From the incandescent, living, fluid casting, the metal flows, pulsates, breathes heat, until it slows, cools and finds a definitive shape. It is the story of a metamorphosis, in which energy calms and becomes a surface: cold, smooth, precise, deeply worked.

In the format of hangable panel or canvas, (with dimensions ranging from a maximum of 3×2 meters to a minimum of 1.5×1.5 meters), the work is called upon to give body to this invisible passage, also using unconventional materials to evoke temperatures, tensions and states of matter. The flow of the liquid and the stillness of the solid coexist in the same space, as traces of a continuous process. Steel thus becomes a symbol of transformation, of balance between strength and control, between instinct and design, between the chaos of heat and the perfection of cold.

Among the nominated works, FOMAS Group awards 3 artists:
– Fee of 7,000* euros for first place
– Fee of 4,000* euros for second place
– Fee of 3,000* euros for third place
*taxes included

The winning works will remain the property of FOMAS Group. The winning artists cede to FOMAS the ownership of the work and the rights of economic use, reproduction, communication to the public, exhibition, distribution, digitization and use for institutional and promotional purposes.

The prizes will be awarded after the work is presented.

Registration for the FOMAS Group Special Award closes on June 1, 2026. After this date it will no longer be possible to send your proposal.

WINNERS

Tania Welz Winner for Arte Laguna Prize and Fomas Special Prize 2026

Tania Welz
(Munich, Germany)
First prize FOMAS winner for the 21st edition
Artwork “Indra’s Weave: Nine to One”

Reason

Tania Welz’s work stands out as the winner for its ability to translate the competition theme into a striking visual form, in which art, material, and industrial process find a particularly effective synthesis.
Through a large panel made entirely by hand from knitted copper wire, the artist makes the material’s journey from heat to form perceptible, transforming a gesture traditionally associated with textiles into a reflection on the world of metallurgy.

Paulina Montes Winner for Arte Laguna Prize and Fomas Special Prize 2026

Paulina Montes
(Santiago, Chile)
Second prize FOMAS winner for the 21st edition
Artwork “The Shape of Cooling”

Reason

Paulina Montes’s work The Shape of Cooling won second prize for its sensitive interpretation of a specific phase in the transformation of matter: cooling, a suspended moment in which the metal, still raw and not definitively stabilized, retains traces of the energy that generated it.

Soukeyna Fall winner for Arte Laguna Prize and Fomas Special Prize 2026

Soukeyna Fall
(Dakar, Senegal)
Third prize FOMAS winner for the 21st edition
Artwork “Forging Dynamics

Reason

The work Forging Dynamics won third prize for its originality in addressing the theme of the transformation of matter, offering a reading that the jury interpreted as a vision from within the material itself.
