Venice, Italy
www.luigi-bevilacqua.com

Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua was founded in Venice around 1700, but the textile tradition started many centuries earlier: it dates back to at least 1499, when the name “Giovanni Bevilacqua, waver”, one of the family’s ancestors, appeared on a painting by Giovanni Mansueti. It is the oldest European weaving still in activity. On the original looms belonging to the Silk Guild of the Republic of Venice, even today the precious soprarizzo velvet is hand-woven with the same techniques and the same quality level imposed by the Doges. The Bevilacqua historical archive, with more than 3500 drawings, is a source of inspiration for the most famous stylists and designers from all over the world. The manual production, which still takes place in the company's historic headquarters overlooking the Grand Canal, since the 1930s has been accompanied by a mechanical production always performed on exclusive Bevilacqua designs with the use of particular techniques to ensure the quality and prestige of the brand name.

TODAY’S PRODUCTION
Tessitura Bevilacqua is divided into a part of mechanical production and one of manual weaving. The latter still has its headquarters in Venice, in Santa Croce, overlooking the Grand Canal. The soprarizzo velvet is the most refined and complex type of velvet, since it consists of two layers of velvet: the cut velvet and the curly velvet. It owes its name to the fact that the cut velvet is higher than the curly (riccio) one: from here sopra-riccio or soprarizzo. The difference between these two types of velvets, in addition to embellishing the design, also creates different shades of color, starting from the same yarn. As a matter of fact, the curly velvet reflects the light and is lighter, while the cut velvet absorbs it and, as a consequence, it is darker. The processing is extremely slow, since, on each loom, only a few centimeters a day are produced. However, the satisfaction of creating something unique, whose secret is now guarded by only a few people in the world, repays all the efforts.

Fraccaro Spumadoro | Treviso Italy

Fraccaro Spumadoro

SPECIAL PRIZE DETAILS

Prize of 2.000 € for the winning project.

The submitted proposal can be free or declined for one of the packaging used by the company and must be inspired by the key concepts of “excellence and artisan elegance, a story of love and simplicity eighty years long, natural ingredients and sourdough, essentiality”.

Fraccaro Spumadoro SPA is a story of love and simplicity eighty years long.
Elena and Giovanni Fraccaro opened their first bakery in the ancient castle walls of Castelfranco Veneto in 1932. Since then, the name Fraccaro Spumadoro has been constantly linked to the traditional art of Confectionery.
This passion has been kept alive to this day: the Fraccaro products are still made using artisan methods, with the same aromas and atmosphere of eighty-six years ago.
Pasticceria Fraccaro products are special because we use our most precious ingredient: the sourdough we got since 1932. Our sourdough is still renewed every day with flour and water, allowing us to bake our cakes with the traditional method of “natural leavening”, adding only healthy and genuine ingredients that guarantee the inimitable taste of homemade cakes.
Our sourdough is used for all our products: Panettoni, Pandoro, Sweet Focaccia, Colomba, Brioches and Snack to give them natural softness and digestibility.
The company in the last years has started to open its business to international markets, developing a strong interest in packaging, wanting to start a journey in search of a style that enhances the craftsmanship, simplicity and elegance of its products.

Info >

Treviso, Italy
www.47annodomini.it

47 Anno Domini is an authentic Wine Creative Lab on the Treviso Mare road. The company name is a reference to the completion date of the ancient Roman road along which the 30 hectares of vineyards wind and whose grapes create the flagship wines of the group. The company was founded on fertile soil, clayey and rich in minerals: it is a difficult soil to cultivate, but one that contributes much to the sweetness and intensity of the flavours of the grapes, made unique by the Libeccio wind that gives the area a unique microclimate.
Precisely on this land, capable of offering important, refined wines with unmistakable elegance and consistency, 47 Anno Domini was built; an expression of love for the land and good wine that has always been part of the Tombacco family. Surrounded by chiselled rows of vineyards, 47 Anno Domini is an expression of the Wine by Design philosophy: every element of the company gives voice to an innovative conceptual approach, which combines wine production and product quality with ideas of beauty, design, relaxation.
Not just production, but also design. 47 Anno Domini is a company with an unusual identity: wood, glass and steel intersect in diagonal lines and form dynamic contrasts with the open brickwork. The play of the light and geometrics render the interior spaces unique and make the Wine Creative Lab the ideal space to enjoy 360 ° tasting experiences. Not forgetting the fundamental role of Open Vineyards, a window with breathtaking views of the vineyards and the steel barrels, the true protagonists from which the wine comes to life.

    SPECIAL PRIZE DETAILS

Prize 5,000 Euro for the winning project.

Submit a video enhancing the art-technology relationship through unique and creative communication.

    Treviso, Italy
    www.eurosystem.it

To participate, applicants are asked to submit a creative proposal aimed at connecting art and technology, two worlds that are increasingly intertwined.

“Art comes from technology. It is the opposing force that balances the disruptive effects of new technologies in culture. Art is the metaphorical aspect of the same technology that it uses and criticizes”.
(Derrick de Kerkchove, The Skin of Culture: Investigating the New Electronic Reality, 1995)
It is the etymology of the term “technology” that brings along and defines its close relationship with art (the word technology comes from the Greek "techne", art meants as skill, and "logia", that is speech, treaty).
Artists have always relied on technological knowledge and ingenuity to find the best materials and tools to express their dreams, thoughts, visions and beliefs, and each work of art is determined first and foremost by the materials available to the artists and their ability to manipulate them.
Not only does technology affect artistic creation by establishing the artists' possibilities of expression, but it also determines the passage to different functions of art, changing therefore the way it can be enjoyed. On the other hand, art, by its very nature, helps improve and increase the perceived value of technology.
The aim of this Prize is therefore to design a tool that the Eurosystem company (specialized in IT technology) can use to enhance the relationship between art and technology.
The creative proposal must consist in a video made using any technique and lasting up to 3 minutes.

    SELECTION PROCESS
The creative submissions will be selected by the Company, together with the Art Director of the Arte Laguna Prize based on originality, alignment with the company's hallmarks, and feasibility.
The documentation (including images) will not be returned.
The winner will be announced during the opening and awards ceremony of the 11th Arte Laguna Prize in March 2017.

    AWARDING OF THE PRIZE
The Special Prize of 5,000 (five thousand) Euro net will be awarded to the winner with a contract agreement in two tranches:
    • 2,500 Euro in April 2017,
    • 2,500 Euro in July 2017
The winner will give the Company all rights of industrial, intellectual property and image exploitation, while recognizing the moral rights to the author.

For years Riva has been making furniture items that defy the passing of time and respect nature.
It all starts in 1920 in a family-run artisan workshop using exclusively solid wood. In 1992 Riva turns into a company and it exhibits for the first time at Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Over the years it has started new collaborations with several designers and thanks to the natural finishing touches, to the warmth of wood and to the support of a smart design, the products start to be appreciated also abroad and Riva Arredamenti becomes R1920.
Riva also creates a Museum of tools and machines for wood working, collected both in Italy and Europe, which over the years has gathered about 2,800 items. In 2010 the new showroom of about 3,000 squared meters is created.
Today Riva is continuing to work as it did as an artisan workshop, the number of designers and architects of worldwide popularity is in constant growth and challenges are ambitious, such as the production of furniture made in unusual wood like cedar, the thousands-year-old kauri wood from New Zealand and the Briccola wood from Venice.
Riva 1920 is also involved in several cultural projects and social initiatives, such as the creative competitions aimed at young designers and architects and the project for the salvage of the disused barrel wood from the Community of San Patrignano, which is reused and worked by the young guests of the center in order to create new design works.
