Description

This is my attempt at opening up by addressing the fact that we’re made up of much more than what we usually allow to surface. Our individuality is incredibly complex, yet when broken down to its essence I believe we all come from the very same place, where love and fear are the driving forces behind all of our actions. Over the past ten years I have developed the habit of emptying my head into my journal on an almost daily basis, trying to get to the very core of my identity. For this project, I scan and print out the 80 pages of my journals, cut out each word and glue them back together in disorder. The message gets lost along the way, leaving a visual representation of the space my thoughts occupy. Through this work, I deconstruct my written history, detach myself from it by neutralising all its components and reconstruct it, keeping only the distant memory of its momentary importance. Decontextualized, torn from their syntactic framework and freed from any grammatical constraint, the words are released from their original significance. In this way, I demonstrate the capacity of existence to extend beyond the limits of subjectivity while questioning the essence of its foundations.
